5 foods to add to your diet if you have stomach ulcer

The pains ulcer patients experience can be reduced with the right foods.

Stomach ulcers are sores that can happen in your digestive tract, including your lower throat (oesophagus), stomach and intestines.

Ulcer patients needs to consume the right foods

Ulcer occurs when stomach acid damages the lining of the digestive tract. Upper abdominal pain is a common symptom. Consuming the right foods will greatly reduce the possibility of ulcer patients going through any pain.

Studies have shown that foods that are rich in antioxidants can greatly reduce the chance of getting an ulcer in the first place and cause other gastrointestinal problems.

If you’ve got ulcer, here are some of the foods you should consume.

1. Plantain

Boiled plantain is one of the healthy diet for ulcer patients

Plantain contains nutrients that help soothe inflamed and irritated mucous membranes. Also, some antibacterial properties can be found in it. To get the best use of plantain as an ulcer patient, eat when it’s unripe. Avoid frying because fat can aggravate ulcer pain.

2. Yogurt

Yoghurt stop the organism that causes ulcer

Ulcer patients should never run out of yogurt. It contains micro-organism that inhibits ulcer. It has also been said to heal ulcer faster than anything. Greek yoghurt is most potent, as opposed to the sweetened one which you really should avoid at all costs.

3. Fruits and vegetables
Vegetables and fruits, such as carrots, kale, broccoli, cabbage juice, grapes, apricots and kiwi fruit are your best friends, especially because they contain beta-carotene and vitamin C. These help protect the lining of the stomach and intestine.

Fruits like berries contain high levels of antioxidants which lower the risk of ulcers and ease symptoms when an ulcer has already developed.

4. Oily Fish
Fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines and herring contain omega-3 fatty acids which means they are good for the reduction of ulcer risks. This is due to the fact that they produce prostaglandins which help to protect the lining of the stomach and intestines.

Honey relieves the pain ulcer patient go through

5. Honey
Honey has been known to fight bacteria that’s why it’s the best bet for ulcer patients. Start by taking a tablespoon of raw, unprocessed honey in the morning and at night to calm a fiery belly. Spread it on toast or a cracker to keep it in the stomach longer.

Lady says she can't cope with mother In-law

It is emerging that not every woman who is yearning to get married wants to have a mother-in-law; some of them could decline a marriage proposal because the man’s mother is still alive.

A young man’s revelation that a lady has allegedly told him that she would not like to marry a man whose mother is alive has left many people in a state of shock.

The Nigerian man identified as Wisebaba took to social media to narrate how he angrily blocked a lady after she disclosed to him during their conversation that she was only interested in a man whose mother is dead.

“Was chatting with this girl yesterday, and she said she doesn’t like the idea of getting married to a man whose mother is still alive. I block her papa asap,” Wizebaba wrote.

It is unclear why the said lady wants her potential husband’s mother to die before he can qualify to marry her. Maybe, she will turn down a man’s proposal regardless of how good and suitable he is, just because his mother is alive.

Lai Mohammed raises alarm against VPN use to access Twitter

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Tuesday, said Nigerians who are bypassing the restriction on Twitter with Virtual Private Network (VPN) are at risk.

He stated that VPN users are putting their data, including bank details, at risk.

The minister spoke at the investigative hearing into the ban of Twitter organized by the committees on Information, Justice, Communications and National Security and Intelligence.

It would be recalled that the committees were given the mandate by the Speaker of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila on the 8th of June following the ban.

The committee was mandated to determine the legality of the ban, the circumstances surrounding it and its duration.

At the hearing, the Minister said, “If you are using VPN, you are exposing your data, including your bank account, If you are using VPN and you think you are hurting Lai Mohammed, you are hurting yourself.”

Since the announcement of the ban, Nigerians have been using VPN to access Twitter. Some notable members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) like Governor Nasir Elrufai Kaduna, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Akin Alabi, a member of the House of Representatives, have all tweeted after the ban.

This position seems to contradict the Attorney General, Abubakar Malami, who had earlier instructed the department of state prosecution and the Nigerian Communications Commission to commence prosecution of those bypassing the directive of the government.

Lai Mohammed also stated that Twitter will only be allowed to resume operation in Nigeria after registering as a Nigerian company.

He noted that Twitter must register with the Corporate Affairs Commission in line with the Companies and Allied Matters Act.

Speaking at the end of the hearing, the Chairman of the committee, Olusegun Odebunmi, said the hearing is only a fact-finding one and a report will be presented to the House.

" DON' T WASTE YOUR TIME TO PROVE YOUR VALUE.

Dogs were put to compete with the cheetah, the goal was to find out who is faster.  Everyone was surprised that the cheetah didn't move out of it's place, they asked the race coordinator what happened!? His response after seeing this picture: "Sometimes trying to prove that you're the best is an insult. We don't need to go down to other people's level, to make them understand that we are the strongest.  Think hard and save your energy for what you deserve. Cheetah uses its speed to hunt not to prove to dogs that it is faster and stronger.

Why Lagos Lawmakers Approved Sanwo-Olu's Request For N85bn Bond

The Lagos State House of Assembly has approved Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s request of ₦ 85 billion special dispensation for bond redemption as well as ₦85 billion for bridge loan for a quarter.

This is in pursuant to the approval of Bonds, Loans and other Security Law of Lagos State 2015 and comes at 9.25% per annum to bond financing programme.

At a sitting on Monday, the Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Hon. Rotimi Olowo, stated that the terms of reference of the request received from the executive arm appraise the request for a special dispensation; enquire into the debt profile of the State and ascertain the source of the fund for repayment and refinancing.

According to Hon. Olowo, based on briefing and documents received, the redemption of bonds will allow for extension of maturity of the same with a two years moratorium in 2031 and the special dispensation approval will enable the State earmarks for capital projects.

Addressing journalists after the approval, Hon. Olowo explained that the request from the governor had two aspects.

The first was for an approval for Bond Brigde Loan which would allow the state to access bond market as soon as possible while the second aspect is a loan from a commercial bank at the interest rate of 9.25.

Olowo explained that as at February this year, the federal government went to bond market at coupon rate of 12% , saying that in june it had increased to 13.5%.

He also said comparing the rate with the bond secured by the state government in 2016 and 2017, the least of all was 16.6%, adding that the highest was around 17.25%.

Olowo explained that the opportunity the market provided was enough for the state to access it now, adding that the state would be able to get the rate cheaper and that the current bond of the state would mature in 2024.

“When you look at our Consolidation Debt Service Account (CDSA) we have about N22billion and we are talking N101.2billion in the next 2 or 3years. It will amount to a lot of pressure on our debt obligation, so what we thought that is necessary is that we should quickly access the bond market with the approval of the House so that we can get it at  cheaper rate and it will be for 10years with 2years moratorium.

“What it means is that, in the next two years after securing the bond we will not pay any money. We will not pay the interest and the capital, it will be like tax holiday. It will relieve the state the burden of sourcing for money to pay the creditors.

“On the second aspect, if today we don’t access the commercial loan from one of the banks at a single digit of 9.25%, we will still be losing because what we will still access, we will pay the holders of the bond between now and the next one months. That means we have been able to save money worth an average of N1.5billion in form of seeking fund to be able to  make up to 2023.

“So, if we don’t pay that in the next three years, what it means is that we have gotten a saving of about N75billion. It is obvious that there cannot be a better time for the state to go for the bond market which we called ‘ Special Dispensation Bond’ and the second is a loan from a commercial bank at the interest rate of 9.25 which is very cheap. That is the reason why the Assembly speedily supports the executive. We always want to support the executive when it comes to infrastructure,” Olowo said.

Lagos Assembly moves to criminalise illegal trade in human parts

* Bill scales second reading as lawmakers call for more sanctions

* Speaker Obasa wants ritualists punished by bill

A bill to criminalise illegal trading in human organs has scaled second reading at the Lagos State House of Assembly with the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Dr) Mudashiru Obasa, describing it as one of the best things to happen to the state.

Before committing the bill to the House committee on Health, Obasa said the  should also make provision to criminalisation of the activities of the ritualists.
He directed that the administration of criminal justice law be studied so that the Organ Harvest and Transplantation bill being considered can be all-encompassing.

Earlier, the chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Hakeem Sokunle (Oshodi-Isolo 1), explained that the bill captures the legal framework for the regulation of organ transplantation from donors either living or dead to patients in need.

Sokunle said the bill has seven parts with 37 sub-sections and tries to curb illegal trade in human parts.

Under its offence and penalties clause, the bill states that a person who removes the organ of another person for a reason other than for therapeutic purposes commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of 10 years without an option of fine.
The bill also stipulates that a person or any hospital and "who, for the purposes of transplant, conducts, associates with, or helps in any manner in the removal of any organ without authority commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding N5 million or a term of 10 years.

Contributing to the debate, Hon. Gbolahon Yishawu (Eti-Osa 2), said that the bill would help in putting a stop to organ trafficking. He called the attention of his colleagues to some grey areas in the bill.

Hon. Rotimi Olowo (Somolu 1) condemned the act of harvesting organs for monetary gain in some parts of Nigeria adding that the bill would put an end to such as well as protect minors and the mentally ill.

Olowo argued that the bill would bring about the sanctity of life and human dignity, adding that penalties for such acts should be stiffer than what was prescribed in the bill.
The lawmaker added that the bill provides for certified medical laboratories for the organs donated by donors and that this is aimed at stopping the involvement of quacks and the criminally minded.

Also, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni, lamented the high rate of organ trafficking in the country, adding that the bill was all encompassing and that it should be supported by all members of the House.

The Leader of the House, Hon. Sanai Agunbiade, described the bill as a product of deep reflection on the part of the state government.

Itemisinng the various processes of organ transplantation as prescribed by the bill, Agunbiade added that it would improve procedure and discourage the act of organ harvesting for financial gain.

"The bill will ensure that organ transplanting is not all-comers affair in the health sector in Lagos," Agunbiade said.

Nigerian govt restrained from prosecuting Twitter

The ECOWAS court of Justice in Abuja has restrained the Federal Government and its agents from arresting or prosecuting Nigerians who are making use of social media platform, Twitter, which was suspended by Nigeria two weeks ago.

The Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, had threatened to arrest and prosecute Nigerians who were using Virtual Private Network to bypass the suspension of Twitter.

Civil Society Organisation, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, and 176 concerned Nigerians, however, instituted a suit before the ECOWAS court, arguing that the unlawful suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, criminalisation of Nigerians and other people using Twitter had escalated repression of human rights and unlawfully restricted the rights of Nigerians and other people to freedom of expression, access to information, and media freedom in the country.

SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, said in a statement that in a landmark ruling on Tuesday, the ECOWAS court restrained the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and its agents from “unlawfully imposing sanctions or doing anything whatsoever to harass, intimidate, arrest or prosecute Twitter or any other social media service provider, media houses, radio, television broadcast stations, the plaintiffs and other Nigerians who are Twitter users, pending the hearing and determination of this suit.”

The court gave the order after hearing arguments from Solicitor to SERAP, Femi Falana (SAN), and lawyer to the government Maimuna Shiru.

The ECOWAS court further stated, “The court has listened very well to the objection by Nigeria. The court has this to say. Any interference with Twitter is viewed as interference with human rights, and that will violate human rights. Therefore, this court has jurisdiction to hear the case. The court also hereby orders that the application be heard expeditiously. The Nigerian government must take immediate steps to implement the order.”

Reacting to the ruling, Falana said the intervention of the ECOWAS Court is a timely relief for millions of Nigerians using Twitter who have been threatened with prosecution under the provision of the Penal Code relating to sedition.

The senior advocate argued that contrary to a later assurance credited to Malami that violators of the Twitter suspension would not be prosecuted, the Federal Government filed processes in the ECOWAS Court threatening to prosecute Nigerians using Twitter for violating the suspension under the provisions of the Penal Code relating to sedition.

“It is extremely embarrassing that the Federal Government could threaten to jail Nigerians for sedition, which was annulled by the Court of Appeal in 1983, in the case of Arthur Nwankwo vs The State,” Falana said.

The substantive suit has been adjourned till July 6, 2021 for hearing of the substantive suit.

‘SHE WAS 10’ ACCESS BANK MANAGER RUNS DOWN GIRL, FAMILY PROTESTS

A bank manager with Access Bank in Life Camp, Abuja, Ekod Koko Dan, has been accused of abandoning the family of a 10-year-old girl, Biola Vanessa, whom she crushed to death while driving against traffic in the area.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, June 10, 2021, when Vanessa was crossing the road.

She was allegedly knocked down by the bank manager who was said to be making a phone call while driving against traffic

Ekod Dan was trying to avoid a traffic buildup at the junction ahead and decided to go against traffic.

The little girl was said to have been hit and rushed to the hospital and Ekod Dan left her contact details with them but she hasn’t reached out to the family since then, even via a phone call.

The little girl later died in the process while the mother went to report the matter to the police.

The family members, friends, and neighbours staged a protest at the bank on Tuesday to demand justice and express their anger over the insensitive attitude of the manager, whom they said had refused to show up and sympathise with them.

The child’s mother, who spoke to the media during the protest, said “My daughter went to buy something and was already halfway on the road because it was a dual carriage road.

“The manager of Access Bank, Life Camp branch killed my daughter. She hit my daughter and my daughter went up and hit the ground and (she) crushed her again. On a normal day when you hit a dog or goat, you can swerve.

“When my daughter was rushed to hospital, I went there and held the hand of this woman so that we could pray but she opened her mouth to tell me that she can’t pray.”

Meanwhile, the protesting family members have vowed not to give up until they get justice.

Zenith bank entangled in scandal as senate probes NSITF

Zenith Bank Plc, one of the largest financial service provider in Nigeria and Anglophone West Africa may have landed itself in a big mess as the Nigerian Senate is set to probe the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) over an alleged diversion and financial mismanagement of N61.1 billion by its management.

The Senate Committee on Public Accounts (SPAC) has, therefore, invited the director general of the NSITF and other top officials of the agency to appear before it yesterday to explain what they know about the alleged diversion of money.

The Chairman of the SPAC, Senator Mathew Urhoghide, said that the invitation was based on three queries issued in the 2018 Auditor General of the Federation’s Report, which is being considered by the upper legislative chamber.

According to auditor general’s query, the NSTIF was accused of diverting the sum of N5.5 billion from its account with the Zenith Bank while in another query, the agency allegedly paid N38.2 billion as personnel cost from 2012 till 2017, which was not approved by National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission. The query further alleged that N17.1 billion was transferred to some persons and companies from these account.

The query reads: “Audit observed that the fund had been implementing a salary structure that is not approved by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission. As a result, irregular payment of N38,219,919,530.32 by way of personnel cost was made to the staff of the Fund from 2012 to 2017.

“Risk implementation of unapproved salary structure may result in wastage of public funds, as remuneration may be higher than the productivity level of staff. Recommendation: the managing director is required to provide the approval of the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission for the implementation of the fund’s salaries structure.”

Another query by the auditor-general reads: “Audit of the fund’s bank statements for the period under review revealed that contributions received from federal government in 2014, amounting to N5,500,000,000.00 were diverted to a Zenith Bank account number 1013938003, instead of the Skye Bank account number 1790122304 into which other contributions were paid, without providing any authority or any form of explanation for such diversion.

“Audit further observed the following: (A). The bank account was opened without the approval of the Accountant-General of the Federation, as no such approval was presented for audit.

“(B). The new account was opened specifically for this purpose as seen in the bank statements where a first tranche of N 2,750,000,000.00 was used in opening the account on August 29, 2014.

“Transfers were further made from the account to third parties, individuals and other NSITF accounts without payment vouchers and other supporting documents to authenticate such transfers.

“This puts doubt in the genuineness of all the transactions in the bank account. Consequently, audit cannot accept such transactions without necessary evidence as legitimate charges against public funds.”

The third query reads: “Audit observed from the fund’s Statements of Account No. 1750011691 with Skye Bank Plc, for the period January 1, 2013 to December 20, 2013, and Statements of Account No.2001754610 with First Bank Plc for the period January 7, 2013 to February 28, 2013, totaling N17,158,883,034.69 were transferred to some persons and companies from these accounts.

“However, payment vouchers relating to the transfers together with their supporting documents were not provided for audit. Consequently, the purpose(s) for the transfers could not be authenticated.”

Thermocool owner, police detain workers over false accusation, demand ₦10mln

The owner of First Shopwize century mall, a franchise dealership of Haier Thermocool, Rose Okorie, in collusion with the officers of Nigerian Police Force, from Area P Police Station, Ipaja, has illegally detained her staff over false accusation of stealing.

According to a source, who didnt want his name mentioned, Freelanews was informed that four members of staff have been in detention for over 24hours over a bailable offence, breaching their rights to personal liberty.

"I think what happened was just unnecessary show of force and wickedness. The owner of this Haier Thermocool showroom in Baruwa Gate here accused her staff of stealing from her and yet what happened can't be tagged as stealing," he said.

From what our correspondent gathered, the manager and three other workers were arrested yesterday, June 15, 2021 and one was only allowed bail this evening, June 16, to reunite with her family.

"Other three are still in detention as I'm speaking with you, which I believe is against the law of the land.

"Why haven't they been charged to court?" our source asked.

Findings about the crime revealed that it was alleged that the store manager was in the habit of selling products the store didn't have to customers.

"What happened was that whenever customers walked in for generating set, the manager will instruct the customers to pay into his account since the store doesn't sell. He would explained to the customer that he would send the driver to bring generator from their other store.

"But what the manager always did was to send the driver to another store to purchase the product and then sell to the customers.

"Then the manager would share whatever profits that may accrue from these transactions with other workers at the store," he explained.

According to another insider, the owner of the franchise store located at No 167, Ipaja, Ayobo-Ipaja road in Alimosho Local Government had after she was informed about the practice, audited her account and confirmed that the book was balanced.

It was, however, alleged that Okorie insisted that the workers should be locked up till they are able to cough out N10million.

"She later agreed that the three salesgirls detained with the manager should pay N500,000 each while the manager must pay N1mllion before she could be pacified," he revealed.

Though one of the salesgirls had been released on bail, Okorie was alleged to have threatened that 30% of the money she was demanding for must be paid in less than 24hours before other could be released.

It was also alleged that she also said that the released girl would be returned to detention and none of them would be released if her condition was not met.

Family and friends of these accused persons hereby called on the relevant authorities to intervene and call these overzealous police officers to order as no one is allowed to be detained more than 24hours without an option of bail.

Nigerian Lady Who Refused to Marry at Young Age Despite Pressure From Her Mum Wins, Graduates With 4.76 CGPA

The story of a young Nigerian lady identified as Sarah has inspired many social media users. Her employer, Osita Chidoka, went on Facebook to narrate how she faced daunting challenges headlong.

According to him, Sarah’s mother wanted her to marry early as a ticket for them to get out of poverty. The young lady who understood the value of education refused outright.

Despite incessant reminders that marriage was the next thing, Sarah bought her diploma form without letting anyone know. When the University of Nigeria, Nsukka offered her admission, she realised she could not do it alone.

Seeing that she is so resolved about going to school, her parents were only able to raise N12,000, which was a paltry sum to take her through a whole semester.

Sarah’s sister, against talks that she may be wasting her money, supported her sibling financially all through her studies.

In 2013, she finished with a distinction. Her parents still were of the opinion that education would not do much for her. Sarah had to go look for jobs to further her education. That plan proved abortive as the best she got offered was a N12,000 monthly salary.

In between different trials, she resorted to marriage, a plan that got shut down due to genotype issues. Determined to get a university degree, Sarah bore another set of struggles with her sister agreeing to pay just her fees.

At 28 years old, everything paid off as she bagged a first class degree with 4.76 CGPA, becoming the best student in the department of foreign languages.

As at the time of writing this report, her story has gone viral on the platform with more than 16,000 comments.
